Our Services for Children

At UCP of NEPA, we understand that parents and caregivers know their child best. That’s why our Early Intervention team works closely with families to support each child’s growth and development in the places where they feel most comfortable—most often at home or in a child care setting.
Our caring and experienced staff partner with families and caregivers to weave learning opportunities into everyday routines, helping children develop important skills through play, daily activities, and meaningful interactions.
Services are individualized through each child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and may include:
-
specialized instruction,
-
developmental support,
-
physical therapy,
-
speech therapy,
-
and other related services designed to meet the unique needs of the child and family.
Early Intervention services are available at no cost to eligible families and are provided for children from birth to age three.
Together, we celebrate every milestone—big and small—and help children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning, growth, and success.
Our Early Intervention Program is supported in part by the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike Counties.

Lekotek is a unique learning and resource center and toy lending library created for children with special needs, from birth through age 12, and the families who love and support them.
The Lekotek concept originated in Sweden, where "Lek" means play and "Tek" means library. At the heart of Lekotek is the belief that play is one of the most natural and powerful ways children learn, grow, and connect with the world around them.
Through play-based activities, children and families explore new ways to learn and grow together. Using adapted toys, specialized equipment, and proven play strategies, Lekotek helps children develop important skills while fostering confidence, creativity, independence, and joyful family interactions.
Families may borrow toys and equipment to continue learning and play at home, extending the benefits of each visit and creating meaningful opportunities for growth during everyday routines.
In addition, our monthly playgroups provide children with opportunities to play, learn, and socialize in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Parents and caregivers can connect with other families, share experiences, exchange ideas, and build lasting relationships within a supportive community.
At UCP of NEPA, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, and thrive, and we are honored to partner with families on that journey.

Technology can open doors, create opportunities, and help level the playing field for children with disabilities in all areas of life.
As a component of UCP of NEPA’s Lekotek program, Compuplay offers computer-based classes, activities, and services designed for children with special needs and their families.
Using engaging software, adaptive technology, and positive, play-based learning strategies, Compuplay encourages participants to
-

-
build confidence and make choices.
Each Compuplay experience is individualized to reflect the participant’s unique interests, strengths, and abilities, ensuring that every session is both motivating and enjoyable.
Compuplay camps and programs are available for participants of all ages, providing opportunities to learn, socialize, and have fun while discovering the many possibilities that technology can offer.
